ABSTRACT

Agriculture and livestock plays an important role in the contribution of Meghalaya's Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP). The main aim is to increase the farmers' income within a short period. This article compares the Net Return and Benefit Cost (BC) ratio of the major crops grown in Meghalaya and the dairy sector to understand which enterprise can help to meet this objective. Though crop cultivation is dominant in the state and provides profit to some extent, the dairy sector is highly profitable and the return is realized in short run. The paper advocates integrating dairy with crop as a better option to enhance farmers’ income.
