ABSTRACT

Udder health plays a vital role in maintaining milk production, milk quality and profitability in the dairy farming. Mastitis is one of the most common diseases affecting dairy cattle and buffaloes and causes considerable economic losses to dairy farmers. Post-milking teat dipping is widely recommended as an effective management practice for preventing mastitis. In recent years, essential oil-based teat dips have emerged as natural alternatives to conventional chemical disinfectants. Essential oils possess antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties that inhibit mastitis-causing pathogens. Adoption of essential oil-based teat dip practices, along with proper milking hygiene, can contribute to improved udder health, better milk quality and sustainable dairy production.
