ABSTRACT

In Northern India, the burning of paddy stubbles remains a persistent challenge due to the short turnaround time between rice harvesting and wheat sowing. Although several in-situ and ex-situ crop residue management (CRM) technologies have been developed, their adoption is limited due to behavioural, infrastructural, and awareness-related constraints. This paper emphasizes the importance of integrated extension and advisory strategies to improve farmer awareness, build local capacity, and promote sustainable CRM practices. A multi-dimensional, stakeholder-driven approach is proposed as a pragmatic solution to reduce straw burning and its adverse environmental impacts.
