India’s dairy sector is a cornerstone of rural livelihoods, nutrition security, and agricultural growth, yet its share in global dairy exports remains disproportionately low despite being the world’s largest milk producer. Rising global demand, especially in emerging economies, presents significant opportunities for India in products such as cheese, skimmed milk powder, and butter. Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with key markets including the UK, EU, and USA could improve market access, reduce trade barriers, and enhance competitiveness. Supported by export incentives, quality assurance, product diversification, and stronger compliance with international standards, India can transform from a production leader into a globally competitive dairy export nation.
