The experience at Sumul Dairy indicates that effective water conservation can be achieved through practical, low-intensity interventions. Simple rooftop harvesting arrangements, focused recharge measures, and more efficient use of available resources together delivered outcomes that were disproportionate to the scale of investment involved. The initiative demonstrates how dairy cooperatives can transition from reactive water procurement to preventive water governance through data-driven, low-cost institutional solutions-effectively transforming water stress from a recurring operational challenge into a long-term opportunity for resilience and growth.
