ABSTRACT

For India, with its vast livestock wealth and diverse agro-climatic conditions, the path to sustainable development lies in conserving its indigenous heritage, empowering its farmers, and embracing innovation with responsibility. Livestock production demands a pragmatic shift towards systems that are not only productive but also environmentally responsible, economically viable, and socially inclusive. Sustainable breeding involves the systematic and science-backed interventions considering a broad gamut of factors such as adaptability to climate stress, disease resistance, reproductive efficiency, feed conversion efficiency, besides the preservation of native breeds.
