ABSTRACT

Dairy farming is at a crossroads right now. The demand for milk and dairy products is growing, but land resources are getting smaller or more contested. At the same time, there is more pressure for climate resilience and feed security. To move forward, we need to dig deeper into how green fodder, ration balancing, new types of feed, and land use all work together and what the evidence tells us. This article combines new research (2020-2025) with real-world examples to show what works, what doesn't, and how India (and other countries like it) can move towards a future of dairy that is both efficient and sustainable.
