ABSTRACT

Calves are the future of a dairy herd. Therefore, it is important to maintain its growth and health, where role of dam is crucial. Maternal behaviour is mainly classified into three stages; prepartum, parturition and postpartum behaviours. Peculiar vices such as calf stealing, placentophagia and cross fostering are need to keenly observed and taken care of for the proper herd management.
