ABSTRACT

India has a plethora of livestock resources compared to other nations. It is listed one among 12 mega biodiversity countries of the world. According to livestock census (2019), we have 530 million livestock population. But out of this, 56% of the population is nondescript. Also, the risk status of non-descript population is not described and hence needs urgent attention. Though many factors are responsible for erosion of rich livestock diversity like reduction of common grazing lands, farm mechanisation, crossbreeding and indiscriminate breeding, these factors can be broadly converged to economic criteria of production systems.
