ABSTRACT

Emotion is a state of the nervous system based on pain, pleasure, and comfort associated with behavior response. Monitoring animal emotion is essential for improving animal welfare. Cows communicate their emotions through ear posture, eyes, noses, along with facial expressions and vocalization. Cows are intelligent animals with long term memory. They recognize people by dress, gait smell rather than face. Stroking or grooming has a positive, relaxing effect along with positive emotion. Cows under stress show increased eye white. The left side of the brain controls the right side of the body and left side of brain associated with positive emotion and right side of brain associated with fight and flight behaviour. High-frequency vocalization associated with negative emotions in cows. Animals do not think; they make associations of experiences, i.e., visual association. Low oxytocin and cortisol are associated with positive emotions.
