ABSTRACT

Milk, recently has come under a new focus of compositional health quality. Sadly the attributes given to a type of cow milk (categorized as A2) are born out of a milk controversy by a foreign private milk company as a marketing gimmick without independent scientific evidence and purely for financial gain. Farmers argue that any official endorsement of such a quality criterion by the State or Central governments in India will be of great concern. Desi cow (indigenous, zebu) milk is being promoted in an effort to support indigenous cattle population, but this milk is being described as “healthy milk” (A2 milk), over other bovine milk, which to date has no proven scientific validity.
