ABSTRACT

It is important to consider all activities involved in the dairy supply chain and measure carbon footprint using internationally accepted Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology. LCA is defined as the compilation and evaluation of inputs, outputs and potential environmental impacts of a product system throughout its life cycle. Although the carbon footprint of milk in India is decreasing over the years, there is scope to reduce it further if milk producers in the country adopt scientific breeding, feeding and management practices for their milch animals.
