ABSTRACT

India is world largest producer of milk since 1997 and production reached to the tune of 176.35 million tonnes during 2017-18. Contrarily milk production per cow in India is far behind the global average for milk production. Mastitis is among the leading cause of economic losses to dairy farmers affecting almost 50 % of dairy herd. The estimated economic losses due to Mastitis are `6053.21 crores per annum in India. The magnitude of losses could be minimized with scientific managemental practices, early diagnosis and institution of etiology oriented therapeutic regimen. The success of control programme dependents on awareness of dairy farmers for timely presentation of affected animal for diagnosis and therapy.
