ABSTRACT

Milk from horse is a staple food for the people of Steppe areas of Central Asia where environment is cold. It is also an important source of basic food stuff for Mongolian people from prehistoric time. Horse milking is intensively practiced and this milk is an important part of local food economies mainly in Mongolia, Kazakhistan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and China. It is estimated that approximately 30 million people in the world drink horse milk. Various research institutes, government agencies, non-government organizations, can play a significant role for increasing the dairy horse farming in India and for winning the confidence of the present health conscious consumer to consume horse milk as a medicated food or as white ambrosia. Feeding of horse milk to infants affected protein intolerance of cow's milk is recommended.
